hard work

poor sydney. sleeping on the floor. we recently moved and i (naomi) have been really busy unpacking while wayne has been commuting to finish school. wayne is usually gone for a few days at a time, so i try to be the good wifey and get as much done as possible. well, babies sure take up a lot of time. :)
sydney has all sorts of rocking, bouncing, swinging things. after doing the rounds on her various baby items and a few failed attempts at just playing on the floor, she just wants to be by momma. so, over comes the blankets, burp rag and ever popular nuk.
she smiles and coos for a while. she can see momma. then she gets fussy. mom puts the nuk in a few times. then mom(I) looks over to see the beautiful baby sydney all cuddled up. asleep. yup, it's hard work being a baby.

for those who may be concerned, she does have a crib. :)

Luggies Exist!!!

The epic quest for the perfect diaper has come to an end. We recieved mostly Huggies and Luvs at baby showers for Sydney. I really liked the 'skirt' paneling along the edges of Luvs, but I liked the stretch tabs of Huggies.
So, I decided that I would (in my mind) invent a new diaper that combined the two features.
I call them Luggies.
The perfect combo of Luvs and Huggies.
Then, we bought Pampers to see how they worked out. And wouldn't you know it, Pampers stole my Luggies idea.
So, I guess we are Pampers people.

Sydney of the Fall

Fall in Wisconsin.
It's actually a bit brisk today. But I really wanted some nice fall pictures, so out we ventured for some nice pictures. of course we took 50+ pictures of sydney in the leaves and she didnt smile for one of them!!! She was so smiley and laughing just before we got outside, but the second we walked out, "ho-hum, i'm outside with nothing interesting to say."
oh well, she is still such a cutie.

2 Months

Here's Sydney. almost 2 months in this picture.
I (naomi) have been back to work for a few weeks now and suddenly there is no time for anything. I work with 4-5 year olds at a YMCA child care center. it is lots of fun, but exhausting. wayne and I are both involved at awana at our church as well. sydney has perfect attendance so far. she comes along and rides in a sling all evening, she sleeps through almost all of it, even t loud game time.
i wish i could sleep like that.
anyway...i guess that is it for now, got to go to work.

Visiting Minnesota

Sydney Says - I can't believe I'm at Mall of America!!!
We were able to visit some friends and family mid Sept. Hello Uncle Jonathan, Aunt Sarah, Aunt Abby and Uncle Eric. Hello Bethany friends: Bekah, Jason, Righteous, Krista, Jessica, Ian, Rich, Jenny, Stephanie, Heather, Angie and all.
It was good to visit our college campus, where so much and yet strangely so little has changed. It felt kind of like Cheers. you know sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name. anyway, God bless you all.

Look who's talking

Sydney has declared her vocal independence. She started talking a while ago and this was our first time catching it on camera. The quality is low, it is just the video from our digital camera, but it is still very cute.

Sydney is a vert smart baby. A few weeks ago, Wayne was away in Colorado. He gave us a call and Sydney happened to be crying in the background, so I held the cell phone up to her to say WAH to daddy. Wayne started talking to her and she stopped crying!!! She was listening and looking around.

I know all parents say it, but Sydney is one smart, beautiful baby.

Sleep Potion - a dash of daddy

Wayne just seems to have the touch. He can get Sydney to sleep even when I can't.

the power of the Nuk

Look at that sad face.

Sydney is a nuk baby. She loves that thing, it is like a drug for her. Seriously. She goes through withdrawl and when she does get it back, her eyes get heavy and she relaxes right into her mellow high.
Anyway, Sydney is a very expressive baby, this picture was taken just a little bit before the great big grin below.

SMILEY

I'm back!!! We were in the process of getting a new computer and then I went back to work and I just didn't have time to update, so here we go!

Hey Baby!!!
Sydney started smilling a few weeks ago, she is so cute. she also started cooing and "talking" too.

a rough day

Sydney 'talking' to Grandpa Fletcher.

Looks more like she's filing a complaint, "I can't work with these people!"

Actually, this is when Sydney was 5 days old. She has a fit that day and literally cried for 5 hours solid. She lost her voice and everything. She was crying, I was crying, and Wayne didn't know how to get either of us to stop! :)

It was a rough day.

Oh where is my hairbrush?

Sydney the rock star!!!

What's in a Name

Sydney Zenaide Anderson
We had names picked out several months ago. The meaning of the name was the most important part to both of us. I (Naomi) went through dozens of baby name websites. I first looked at the meaning of the name, then the actual name. There were lots of nice meanings, but then the name would be only so-so. (for example "God is gracious" is a nice meaning, but who knows how to pronounce Eoin [looks like a middle earth name - Gimli son of Eoin]).
Anyway, we liked the name Sydney. It means 'wide meadow,' - Not very deep on the meaning scale. But, then I started thinking about Ps. 23, when the Lord is our shepherd, he gives us green pastures (and maybe a wide meadow) to lay down in. We want Sydney to find her rest in the Lord.
Zenaide (zen-age) is Portuguese in origin. It means 'one who has decided to follow God.' When she puts her trust in the Lord and follows Him, she will rest in his peace and love. I love the meaning and the more we say her name, Sydney Zenaide, the more we love it and her.
Mommy and Daddy love you, girlie.

life is beautiful

Wayne and his little girl.

The happy momma.

Sydney, like Australia

This is how we introduced our little girl the first few days.
(Some people hear Cindy).

We love our little girl. Wayne greets her with, "hey beautiful," and I call her "girlie."
Sydney is 5 days old in this pic.

Come out Baby!

Well, we have a new due date.
We had an ultra sound Aug. 1st. We wanted to check the size of the baby. Wayne was 11 lbs. (For those who don't know, the average is 7.5). When I think of having a baby that big, I hum the Baby Belluga song. :) Anyway, we wanted to make sure our baby wasn't that big. The ultrasound gave an estimate of 8lbs, 3oz; with an error margin of 1lb. Not huge, but large. My blood pressure has been up lately as well. So, the doctor came in and we were expecting to talk about what to do when we get past the due date, Aug. 11. She said, well, due to the size of the baby and your blood pressure, I don't want to wait past next Thursday (Aug. 9th). OH! we both said. Wayne was really happy and I was really surprised.
So, we are going to the hospital Aug. 9th at 8am.
We've been ready for a while now. Lately, Wayne will lay his head on my belly and talk to baby, are you ready yet?, and come out, baby, come out! :)

Nesting - Code: GET CLEANING, Baby's Coming

Naomi's mom and dad came up on July 28th and helped us 'nest'. Nesting is an old-wives tale about the mom-to-be getting an overwhelming urge to clean the house, usually just before the baby comes. I think moms-to-be just think, This baby is coming, I'd better clean, NOW. Well, together we finished setting up for baby. The crib is ready to go, car seats are belted in and dad's homemade diaper garbage can is ready for...well, duty. I guess we are as ready as can be.
I wanted to put a picture in, but the computer is being picky...i'll add one in later.

Favorite Shirt

It appears I have a favorite shirt. I just want to assure the general public that I do have other clothes! :) I guess I just wear this one a lot!
This is some of the extended family that came to our shower.

Showers and Sympathy Belts

We had another wonderful baby shower, this one at our church. Poor Wayne was given a homemade sympathy belt (you know, the pregnant belly one a belt for men) and had to wear it the whole afternoon. He kept joking, "I don't need your sympathy." He also had to guess baby food; I think he got them all right, but they tasted awful.

Just a three more weeks!

the Fam

Here's the family. (Jonathan is missing, but we still love him).

I want to take it for a walk!

We had a baby shower at my parents church, June 23. Here I am with one of the presents that excited me the most . . . the BABY STROLLER!!! I told Wayne, I want to take the stroller for a walk!

(for those of you who have looked at strollers lately, you will realize that you cannot simply buy a baby stroller, it is a travel system [oohhh, aaahh]. stroller with compatable car seat/baby carrier. [again, oohhhh, aaahhh]) :)

Side View

Pic taken May 28, 2007
For the curious, I must have the most boring pregnancy ever. I never had morning sickness, I don't have any weird cravings . . . altogether, no major complaints whatsoever. Hopefully I'll have a boring delivery as well.
Actually, the worst part is trying to sleep at night. At last count, there are two body pillows, two feather pillows and a comforter stuffed into a pillowcase all devoted to me. Poor Wayne gets the edge of the bed and maybe a corner of a pillow.

Happy Feet

On June 12, we had an unscheduled doctor visit. I was concerned about 'fetal movement,' so in we went. I was hooked up to two monitors, one to check for contractions and one for the babies heartbeat. After 20 minutes, baby was ok, but the doctor wasn't quite happy with the heartbeat. Well, one cup of juice and two minutes later, kick-kick-wiggle-wiggle-kick-kick-punch! and the heartbeat was much stronger. I guess I was just a little low on sugar.
And, obviously we are going to have to monitor kiddo's sugar intake! hahaha
For fun, here is a pic of baby's Happy Feet, taken at week 20.

Baby Belly

Here we are!
While visiting Mom and Dad F., we took some pictures of the 'three' of us. (I think these are the first pictures of the bump, and I'm at 30 weeks!)
